Wembley short-listed for Champions League final

Wembley has been short-listed to host the Champions League final in 2010 or 2011.

The FA's new stadium is up against the Allianz Arena (Bayern Munich), Mestalla (Valencia), Bernabeu (Real Madrid) and Olympic Stadium (Berlin) for the right to host the showpiece. UEFA will announce their decision in March.

The news is a boost to FA chief Brian Barwick, under huge pressure after England's disastrous Euro 2008 qualifying campaign. Barwick finally drove through the £757million Wembley project in May.

Arsenal's Emirates Stadium is among six stadiums up to host the UEFA Cup final.
