Wenger: Referee could decide the outcome of European final

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger fears poor refereeing decisions could ruin tonight's all-English Champions League final after his side were controversially dumped out of the quarter-final stages of the competition.

Wenger saw the Gunners beaten by Liverpool despite clear claims for a penalty when Dirk Kuyt tugged down midfielder Alexander Hleb.

Down and Out: Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger reflects after watching his side get dumped out of the Champions League at Liverpool.

Wenger said: "Every match is being decided on a referee's decision and I wouldn't put my house on a ref's decision."

Tonight's referee Lubos Michel awarded Luis Garcia's goal for Liverpool against Chelsea in the 2005 semi-final, although replays showed the ball did not cross the line.

Liverpool went on to beat AC Milan in the final. But Chelsea boss Avram Grant insisted: "He is a good referee. We don't think there's any problem."
