Wenger: We must believe title is still in our reach

Arsenal are used to treading on to Bolton's Reebok Stadium turf with trepidation, but it is fear of failure that will constrict them this afternoon not the fear of the bruising opposition they normally encounter in this part of Lancashire.

In a dismal spell of five games in which 11 points have been dropped, Arsene Wenger's team have been passed by both Manchester United and Chelsea.

Adebayor: Set to be rested

But with next month's summit meeting at Old Trafford to come, the Arsenal boss said: 'Maybe you can say that the belief is less strong than when we were five points ahead, but for the players not to believe that we can win the title now would be crazy. Mentally, we are tough enough.'

Wenger is poised to leave out Emmanuel Adebayor today in an effort to give the 23-goal striker a chance to revitalise himself ahead of next week's Champions League quarter-final against Liverpool.

Adebayor has scored just once in his past eight games after a run of 16 goals in his previous 17 appearances. Nicklas Bendtner could start in his place against Bolton.

Wenger said: 'Adebayor has given a lot this year and he needs a little breather, maybe because he has played a lot on his own up front and he has had to fight very hard. 'To refresh him a bit at the moment would do him some good.'

West Ham travel to Sunderland today with manager Alan Curbishley desperate for his side not to concede an early goal.

The Hammers have conceded more than 60 per cent of their goals in the first 15 minutes of matches.

They managed a creditable 1-1 draw at Everton in their last outing, but Curbishley revealed: 'We had a good chat before the game in the Goodison dressing room about keeping a clean sheet for the first 15 minutes and what do we do? Concede in 12!'

Fulham coach Ray Lewington believes a victory at bottom club Derby today would give the London side a huge chance of pulling off the great escape.

He said: 'If we could get a result at Pride Park I feel it'd show us that there's a massive chance of surviving.

'If results go our way then we could be one point from safety going into the Sunderland game next week.'
