We're planning on a high-five, says Jol

There will be no new trophy in the White Hart Lane boardroom this season, but Tottenham manager Martin Jol believes his team's season should be counted as a success if they qualify for Europe on Thursday night.

A home win over Blackburn would assure Tottenham, who finished fifth last season, of UEFA Cup football for the second successive campaign and make them favourites to win the alternative Premiership title again.

Jol: 'Proud' of strikers

With Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal dominating the top four places, coming fifth is now a big achievement and Jol said: "It would be great to come fifth.

"If you look at Everton and Bolton, they didn't have to focus on other competitions and we had to play all the time, Thursdays, then sometimes Saturday, like against Chelsea.

"We have played 57 games this season, so it would be a great achievement. We're not fifth yet but how many teams outside the top four do well in Europe and well in the league? Not one over the last four or five years."

Tottenham have reached the Carling Cup semi-final and the last eight of the FA and UEFA Cups this season and the contribution of their strikers has been vital.

Dimitar Berbatov, with 22 goals, Robbie Keane (24) and Jermain Defoe (19) have scored the majority of the side's goals and Jol insists his trio have been as good as four strikers.

He said: "I'm very proud of my strikers to score that many between them. You should need four but the evidence lies in the facts that our strikers every year have scored more than any other trio in England." TV: Sky Sports 1, 7.30pm (kick-off 8.0)
