West Ham defender Collins hit by serious injury blow



Facing six months out: James Collins


West Ham's injury jinx shows no sign of easing, with Wales defender James Collins out for the rest of the season with serious knee ligament damage.

Collins, will undergo an operation and faces up to six months of recovery.

Another West Ham defender, Calum Davenport, also faces a long spell out after fracturing a bone in his neck during his debut on loan at Watford.

Meanwhile, the Upton Park club have moved a significant step nearer to appointing a director of football. Manager Alan Curbishley has spoken to several candidates for the post.
