The world's number one golfer announced last night that he will be forced to take the rest of the year off to have an operation on a torn anterior cruciate ligament and to allow a double stress fracture of his left tibia to heal.

Tiger Woods revealed last night that he had to fight through the pain of a double stress fracture in his left tibia as well as a knee injury as he limped to victory in Monday's US Open play-off at Torrey Pines. The world number one is to have anterior cruciate ligament surgery to repair his troublesome left knee and will not play again this year.
