The ownership battle at Liverpool escalated last night as Dubai International Capital increased the pressure on the club's American owners to accept a formal £400million offer just as Tom Hicks indicated that he was ready to buy out George Gillett Jr, his co-chairman. DIC, the private equity investment arm of the Dubai government, made its bid to buy out Hicks and Gillett last Wednesday and the offer has so far not been rejected.

Arsene Wenger last night urged his young Gunners to make Italian legend Arrigo Sacchi eat his words. Gunners boss Wenger dismissed the former Italy and AC Milan boss' claims on Italian television that Arsenal lack experience and are "scared" of tonight's trip to the San Siro.
