Golden girl: Britain's Rebecca Romero celebrates after winning gold

DAILY MAIL: She swapped a boat for a bike and traded silver for gold. Now Rebecca Romero is urging the whole of British sport to follow the cycling team's golden tyre tracks all the way to London 2012.

Also: 'It would be good for you if you lost today.' Those words turned seven into eight for Olympic phenomenon Michael Phelps.

THE SUN: Britain gloried in another sensational gold rush at the Beijing Olympics.

Also: Dimitar Berbatov has pleaded with to let him join .

DAILY MIRROR: The Union Jack was flying proudly over Beijing last night after Britain's best weekend at the Olympics since 1908.

Also: Dimitar Berbatov last night broke his silence on his move to Manchester United and urged Spurs to let him "follow his dreams".

DAILY EXPRESS: Great Britain has delivered the best weekend in its Olympic history by sealing yet another quartet of gold medals yesterday.

Also: Chelsea drew first blood over Manchester United in the hunt for the Premier League title yesterday, as they thumped Portsmouth 4-0 while Sir Alex Ferguson's side could manage only a limp 1-1 draw with Newcastle at Old Trafford.

DAILY STAR: Manchester United will step up their bid for Dimitar Berbatov this week after a punchless display yesterday. Also: Chelsea put down their marker with a 4-0 win. Maybe Newcastle did, too, with this well-deserved point.

THE INDEPENDENT: It will be remembered as Britain's golden weekend. The country's most successful two days at an Olympic Games for a century were rounded off here yesterday when the track cyclist Rebecca Romero won the eighth British gold medal in 48 hours.

Also: Sunderland should discover today if Anton Ferdinand is to become their next major signing after the Wearside club and West Ham agreed a fee in the region of £8million for the 23-year-old centre-half over the weekend.

THE GUARDIAN: The Laoshan velodrome will witness a first today. A track cycling race will take place and a Briton is not expected to win a medal.

Also: Tottenham's Jermaine Jenas has been called into the England squad for Wednesday's friendly against the Czech Republic following the withdrawal of Michael Carrick, who hobbled off at Old Trafford yesterday with an ankle injury which will rule him out for up to three weeks.

THE TIMES: If Great Britain is to dominate the medals table at London 2012, Olympic sports need to copy the model that has proved such a world-beater for cycling.

Also: Kelly Sotherton has changed her plan to retire from the heptathlon after her disappointing fifth place in Beijing.

DAILY TELEGRAPH: We expect flamboyance from Chelsea but not understatement. Here we were given both as Luiz Felipe Scolari instantly imposed his brand of expansive football on the Premier League to exhilarating effect, while downplaying his own cult of personality.

Also: Rick Parry, the Liverpool chief executive, will stand firm against Rafael Benitez amid the latest outbreak of internal warfare at Anfield in the belief that he has the support of co-owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett over the Gareth Barry saga.
