They'd really love it... : Keegan sounded out

With former chairman Freddy Shepherd departing from the boardroom last week, Ashley and his chairman Chris Mort are ready to reveal their vision for the future.

The paper says moves have already been made to sound out Keegan, 56, who is idolised by the Toon army for the buccaneering football he gave them in the five years after being appointed as manager in 1992.

keegan ios currently involved in his family-oriented 'Soccer Circus' project in Glasgow and he will take some persuading to return to Premiership football, something he says he doesn't miss after quitting as Manchester City manager two years ago.

Meanwhile, according to the Sunday Mirror, legendary striker Alan Shearer has been approached to return to the club to 'establish a Geordie connection at the club'.

Wigan Athletic defender Leighton Baines could end up the £6million winner in the Gabriel heinz tug of war between Manchester United and Liverpool, say the Sunday Express.

Baines last week turned down a move to join Roy Keane's Sundarland believing he has the ability to catch the attention of one of the Premiership's big four.

The full-back, who is also interesting Everton, could be in demand at either Liverpool or United, according to the report.

Howard Kendall fears Goodison Park could become a car park for Liverpool supporters at their new £300million stadium, according to the Daily Star Sunday.

The most successfulo manager in the club's history is horrified at the prospect of his old club having to build their new ground outside the city at Kirby.

Kendall said: "An Evertonian said to me recently, 'I can see it happening. We go to Kirkbt or wherever and Goodison Park is knocked down and then becomes a car parik for Liverpool'.

"For a Blue, that would be the lowest of the low - with the Reds parking there and then walking across Stanley park to their new stadium."
