Whelan presses new fight over Tevez
09 May 2007
The Wigan chairman was stunned by a letter the Premier League sent to all 20 of their clubs on Tuesday that gave assurances the third-party agreement between West Ham and Kia Joorabchian, who owns the rights to Tevez, had been "terminated".

Whelan: Furious letter
In a furious response, Whelan queried whether Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore had been "told lies again" by the east London club.
Tevez's initial contract was a clear breach of Premier League regulations and a reason the Upton Park club were fined a record £5.5million last month.
But West Ham are now in a dispute with Joorabchian for unilaterally terminating the contract and Whelan now questions whether playing Tevez is still a breach of regulations.
While officials at Wigan, Fulham, Sheffield United and Charlton grudgingly accept that Premier League rules may prevent them from challenging an independent commission's decision not to deduct points, the "gang of four" believe they may have a case when it comes to Tevez's continued appearance for West Ham.
In a letter addressed to chief executive Scudamore — and circulated to all 20 Premier League clubs — Whelan expressed his concerns.
"Could I remind you of the meeting, which you requested, held at the Wigan Athletic training ground on 1st May 2007, between yourself, our Chief Executive, Brenda Spencer, our Manager, Paul Jewell, and myself," wrote Whelan in a letter that has been exclusively obtained by Sportsmail.
"At that meeting, you clearly stated that the West Ham Chief Executive looked you square in the eye and told you blatant lies regarding the contracts of the Argentinian players. Are you being told lies again?
"In your e-mail of 8th May 2007 sent to all Premier League clubs, you state that assurances were received in a satisfactory form from West Ham.
"Surely the contract can only be terminated by both parties? Could we see concrete evidence, i.e. written confirmation that this contract had been cancelled by both parties and furthermore, was this termination completed before Saturday the 28th April 2007, the day West Ham played Tevez at the JJB Stadium?
"We await an urgent reply."
