Where's Wisey? £1.5m a year but when Saturday comes, Dennis is at the theatre

Dennis Wise has embarrassed his Newcastle bosses by going on a family trip to the theatre on the day Kevin Keegan's team plunged towards the Premier League relegation zone with a 3-0 defeat by Liverpool last Saturday.

Wise was spotted at the matinee performance of The Lion King at the Lyceum Theatre, near London's Covent Garden, last Saturday afternoon and the club have asked for an explanation from the man brought in as executive director (football) on a salary of £1.5million a year.

The humiliation is another blow for Newcastle as Keegan goes into tomorrow's crucial game against Birmingham still searching for his first win since returning to St James'Park as manager.

Newcastle have declined to comment on Wise's visit to the musical. But senior figures at the club are believed to have been unaware of his whereabouts last Saturday.

The appointment of the former England international has been dogged by controversy. Keegan was apparently unaware that the player he coached when England manager would be taking a senior role in the Newcastle hierarchy.
