Who can stop Kauto Star?

Has the bubble burst for Kauto Star? I don't think so and Paul Nicholls' charge should be backed to silence the doubters and repeat last season's win in the Betfair Chase.

The seven-year-old has defied the critics many times before, not least in the Cheltenham Gold Cup where he overcame an error at the last to score readily at the expense of Exotic Dancer who reopposes this afternoon.

The one to beat: Kauto Star tops the chasing tree

Think back to this race last term where many questioned whether KAUTO STAR (Haydock, 2.05) possessed sufficient stamina to score over today's testing three miles.

He dismissed those negatives with an imperious display and, although without his regular rider Ruby Walsh, Sam Thomas is an able deputy capable of doing the job.

Admittedly, Kauto Star didn't travel with his usual zest and fluency at Aintree when Monet's Garden proved too strong on his favourite course.

However, it is testament to Kauto Star's attitude and desire that he finished so close and that run is sure to have sharpened him up for today's test.

Main market rival My Way De Solzen needed his first run back last term, while Exotic Dancer has 20 lengths to find with the selection on their Aintree running.

If there is to be a shock then Gold Cup third Turpin Green could be the one to provide it.

He has won all three of his seasonal reappearances and was only five lengths behind Kauto Star at Cheltenham in March.

RACING DEMON (Huntingdon, nb, 3.35) has a good record fresh, is unbeaten in two starts at today's venue and strives to land Henrietta Knight's eighth win in the last 10 years in the Peterborough Chase.

The Lockinge Farm handler has her string in good order at present and, although the son of Old Vic can be a law unto himself, he may have a little more natural pace than chief rival Aces Four in the three-runner affair.

I was impressed with the attitude of ART PROFESSOR (Huntingdon, nap, 2.25) when he hacked up at Bangor on his debut over hurdles.

He has to cope with faster conditions this afternoon and the presence of talking horse Metaphoric, but he was a slow learner on the level and it was encouraging that he took to his new vocation so well.

Today's lay vote goes to Degas Art (Haydock, 1.05).
