Much to ponder: Michelle Wie is looking to head back up the rankings after a two-year slump

It will be only her third event of the year. She missed the cut in her last appearance and in the other finished last of those who made it through to the third round.

"I just thought I needed to play in more tournaments," she said. "I found at the last tournament I was really rusty. I've never been to Munich and it's a great opportunity."

Troubled by a wrist injury all last year, Wie added: "I feel a lot healthier and I want to start playing more and playing some good golf. My goal is just to have fun and keep my head on straight and shoot some low scores."

It is the first Ladies European Tour stop in Germany for seven years. First prize is £30,000.

Wie finished second, third and fourth in women's majors as an amateur and in her first three as a professional came third, fifth and third again, but then it all started to go badly wrong.

At the age of 14 she missed the cut by only one in the US Tour's Sony Open in Hawaii but other attempts to compete against the men, including one in Switzerland, saw her fail to repeat her early successes.
