Wigan chief Noble enters race for Catalans job

Catalans Dragons claim Brian Noble wants to become their new coach.

The Perpignan club's chairman Bernard Guasch has revealed the former Great Britain boss, who is out of contract at Wigan at the end of the season, is among around 20 applicants hoping to succeed the departing Mick Potter.

Potter is leaving the Dragons after three seasons when his contract runs out in November to take over from Daniel Anderson at St Helens.

Guasch said: 'We now have about 20 applications which shows how the Dragons have grown in stature in two years. We've had applications from some very well-known coaches, both British and Australian, with exceptional CVs.

'Brian Noble is coming to the end of his contract with Wigan and is negotiating with them but he has put his name forward.'

Other names being linked with the Catalans vacancy are Huddersfield coach Jon Sharp, Celtic Crusaders boss John Dixon and former London Broncos coach Tony Rea, while outgoing Canterbury Bulldogs boss Steve Folkes heads a list of potential candidates from Australia.

Meanwhile, Wigan second row Gareth Hock, who missed the start of the season because of suspension, is facing another ban ahead of Sunday's Super League derby with St Helens at the Millennium Stadium.

The 24-year-old Great Britain forward, who has only just returned to the Warriors team after a broken thumb, has been ordered to appear before the RFL's disciplinary panel on Monday on two separate charges.

He is alleged to have struck an opponent with his arm during Sunday's 26-12 defeat at Bradford and has been charged with punching following a separate incident.

Warrington's Great Britain hooker Jon Clarke has also been summoned before the committee, charged with striking with his forearm during his side's 30-22 home defeat by St Helens.
