Wigan's Paleaaesina faces GBH trial after 'attack' on bus driver

Wigan rugby league prop Iafeta Paleaaesina was charged with grievous bodily harm yesterday after allegedly breaking a man's jaw with a punch.

The 17-stone forward (above) is alleged to have attacked bus driver James Campbell, 29, at Wigan North Western railway station on October 6, hours after Paleaaesina's Warriors side had been knocked out of the Super League play-offs by Leeds Rhinos.

The New Zealander played in the October 5 final eliminator at Headingley which saw Wigan's hopes of reaching the play-off final shattered.

Paleaaesina answered bail yesterday at Wigan police station, where he was formally charged and bailed again to appear in court on December 4.

Meanwhile, one-time Hull favourite Lee Crooks has joined rivals Hull KR as assistant coach. The former Great Britain forward, 44, who also played for Castleford and Leeds, has agreed a threeyear deal to work alongside head coach Justin Morgan.

Crooks, who has spent the last six years working for the game's governing body on coaching and talent identification, will work full time at Craven Park and also coach Rovers' Under 21 team.
