Williams blow for Wales

Shane Williams will miss Wales' pre-Rugby World Cup clash against England. The Wales wing has failed to recover from elbow surgery for the Twickenham friendly on August 4.

But Williams insists he will win his race against time for the World Cup opener against Canada on September 9.

Williams, 30, said: "Playing against England is probably pushing it too much but I've been given a dateline for my injuries to be ready."

Head coach Gareth Jenkins must pick his 30-man squad after the England date, but Williams is still expected to be named for the finals in France.

Scotland full-back Chris Paterson has left Edinburgh to join Premiership side Gloucester much to the 'dismay' of the Scottish Rugby Union.
