Williams is ruled out of Cardiff clash

Wales have suffered a major blow with world player of the year Shane Williams ruled out of tomorrow's match with England.

The Ospreys wing, who has scored 45 tries in 62 Tests, has failed to recover from the ankle ligament damage he suffered tackling Jason White in the 26-13 win at Murrayfield on Sunday.

Mark Jones takes over from Williams but the Scarlets man has not played for two months after suffering appendicitis.

Wales backs coach Rob Howley is sure his team will cope and said: "Shane had a test with our medical people, he's not 100 per cent and so hasn't made it.

"He is a bit of a talisman for the team but Mark was in outstanding form against Australia in the autumn and we have no problem about him coming in.

"That's why I don't believe it's a setback even though Shane is a special player. We are comfortable with Mark in the side."

No8 Andy Powell is fit for the Cardiff game after overcoming a calf strain, as is skipper Ryan Jones who missed the Scotland clash with the same injury.

Wales are clear favourites to win the game but Howley added: "We realise we're facing a formidable challenge against what is a very physical pack."
