Williams predicts double triumph will fire Dragons

England beware. Shane Williams believes Wales will go to Twickenham for the Six Nations opener on February 2 with their morale at an unprecedented peak thanks to the exploits of his Ospreys team and Cardiff in the Heineken Cup.

For the first time since 2001, two Welsh teams will line up in the quarter-finals. The Blues face a trip to Toulouse, while Williams and Co must confront Saracens at Vicarage Road.

Cup tonic: Williams thinks Wales will benefit

They have the chance to rub shoulders with the creme de la creme by virtue of two stirring away wins on Sunday. Cardiff stormed Bristol's Memorial Stadium fortress and emerged with a 17-0 win while the Ospreys broke their duck in France, seeing off Bourgoin 28-21.

Although both sides have been enhanced by a sprinkling of imports from New Zealand, they are also full of players who reported for training with new Wales coach Warren Gatland on Monday.

Their achievements suggest the Dragons may be ready to breathe fire again and Brian Ashton's World Cup finalists will be on their guard.

Reflecting on the weekend's triumphs, Lions wing Williams said: 'It certainly does lift your spirits. It is our first time through to the quarters, so it will boost our egos because we know we've deserved it. I haven't been in this situation before and it's uplifting. Hopefully, it can reflect well on us as a nation.

'I'm sure it will lift the spirits of the Welsh boys who are going to be playing in the quarter-finals and also the lads who have missed out. It's a team game and all the players are looking forward to the Six Nations, especially after these results.'
