Wimbledon serves up Hawk-Eye

The electronic line-calling technology, which will be used on both Centre and Court Number One, has split opinion since it was introduced at numerous tournaments including the US and Australian Opens.

Federer has always been a vocal critic, describing it as "nonsense" and adding: "Now the umpires can hide even more behind these calls, that's for sure. It makes it really hard for us."

The All England Club's announcement comes after extensive testing on a grass surface, and follows the decision of officials at Queen's Club to use the system in the pre-Wimbledon Artois Championships.

Under the system, players will be allowed three incorrect challenges a set, an increase from the previous figure of two a set which was applied in Flushing Meadows and Melbourne.

All England Club chief executive Ian Ritchie said: "Statistics also show that players have been very sensible in their use of the technology so far and it is right to grant them additional opportunities to use this highly accurate assistance."

Unlike Federer, former Wimbledon finalist Andy Roddick is a big fan of the system.

He said: "I like everything about it. I think it is great for the fans and it takes some of the heat off the umpires a little bit."
