Roger Federer moving through the gears

What a difference a week makes. When Roger Federer opened proceedings on Centre Court a week ago he laboured to an unconvincing five sets win.

But the defending champion is moving through the gears after blowing away Austria's Jurgen Melzer 6-3, 6-2, 6-3.

It took the Swiss player just one hour 25 minutes to book his place in the quarter-finals and he is close to hitting top form. Few would bet against him winning his seventh Wimbledon title.

He said: "I think my form is good enough and obviously the opponents are going to get more and more difficult but my game is good.

"I know how to win here which is a great advantage for me but there are so many great players left in the draw so it is still a very difficult tournament to win. I will try to give myself a chance and see where it goes."

Federer will play either 12th seed Tomas Berdych or unseeded German Daniel Brands in the last eight.
