Dean Windass took his chance to impress boss Phil Brown by scoring on his first appearance of the season but the Barclays Premier League side were dumped out of the Carling Cup.

Swansea’s Gorka Pintado ruined the Hull striker’s hopes of being the match-winner  by sending the game into extra-time.

It could have been even better for Pintado, but he missed a last-gasp penalty in normal time, which was saved by Matt Duke.

Thankfully for Pintado, Swansea had another spot-kick in extra-time, after Michael  Turner impeded Shaun MacDonald, and Jordi Gomez made no mistake with his 104th-minute effort.

Windass had been overlooked for his team’s eye-catching start in the Premier League
but it took him just 11 minutes to open under-strength Hull’s account. He seized on Caleb Folan’s clever dummy before turning and slotting in.

But substitute Pintado headed in after 63 minutes. And Pintado could have grabbed the late winner after Wayne Brown fouled Fabian Brandy, leading to the late penalty that he missed.

Ultimately, it didn’t matter, though.
