Woodgate backs Terry

Jonathan Woodgate today insisted John Terry is the right man to captain England, even though it is set to ruin his chances of playing in the next World Cup.

Terry was made the permanent choice by coach Fabio Capello last week, ensuring he will start every game barring injury.

Speaking at one of the 11 projects funded by the Team England Footballers Charity Outreach Programme, Woodgate said: "Everyone was pleased and delighted when he got the armband. John has captained the country before and he's an excellent captain so it's good that he's got it again."
