World Cup winner Lippi has 'already been offered Tottenham manager's job'

Italy's World Cup winning Coach Marcello Lippi has reportedly been offered the job at Tottenham Hotspur.

The tactician has been out of work since quitting the Azzurri bench just days after lifting the World Cup trophy on July 9, 2006.

He left because he did not want to work in football while his son – agent Davide Lippi – was under investigation for irregularities in the agency GEA World.

However, Sunday newspaper speculation was that Lippi is ready to get back in the saddle with a Premier League position.

The ex-Juventus boss has allegedly been approached to replace under-fire Martin Jol at White Hart Lane.

Other contenders for the position are former Real Madrid, Juve and Roma Coach Fabio Capello and Sevilla chief Juande Ramos.

This is not the first time Lippi has been linked with a post in England, as he had also been in the frame at Manchester United and Chelsea some years ago.

"After winning the World Cup for Italy, I still want another challenge," said earlier this year.

"Being a manager of a top English club attracts me, given what I have achieved in Italian football and for the national side. There are some people who think that can't happen because I don't speak English.

"But that is not right because actually I can speak English quite well and have spent the last year improving my command of the language."
