Spain to win World Cup, according to Paul the octopus

The eight-legged oracle has spoken: Paul the octopus today decided Spain will beat Holland and win the World Cup on Sunday.

The psychic cephalopod also gave a boost to his home team, predicting Germany would defeat Uruguay in Saturday's match to determine third and fourth place.

Working from his tank in Oberhausen's Sea Life aquarium, Paul has correctly predicted all Germany's World Cup results so far. He chooses by opening one of two boxes marked with the flags of competing nations, and devouring the mussel within.

But today he took 10 minutes to decide on Germany, sitting on the Uruguayan box before flitting back to the other and prising it open.

Dubbed Pulpo Paul by Spaniards, he has had death threats from German fans who want to eat the messenger after their team lost to Spain. He also has competition: Singaporean parakeet Mani, who chooses between cards that hide national flags, has chosen Holland.
