The Europeans were leading 1-0 until the All Whites' Winston Reid popped up with an equaliser in added time.
Manchester City's Weiss said they cannot afford to give away points so easily in their remaining matches, starting against Paraguay in Bloemfontein on Sunday.
"That was our big debut in the World Cup and we weren't expecting it to be a walkover," he said.
"However, we were leading 1-0 and I think any side would have settled for that result in their debut match.
"The fact that we came so close to winning is very encouraging.
"But we will have to do our level best to prevent the same thing from happening again."
