We will get it right, says Wayne Rooney
25 May 2010
The visitors dominated possession for long periods and were unfortunate to leave Wembley with a 3-1 defeat.
Rooney admits England were not at their best but feels a few more training sessions with the whole squad will soon ensure the team are back on top form.
"I'm happy we won game but the performance wasn't good enough," he said. "Mexico have been together longer than us and I think it showed. They played some good football but we're still working together."
England captain Rio Ferdinand agreed with his Manchester United team-mate but said they would resolve their issues over the next five days before the final warm-up match against Japan in Graz on Sunday. He said: "Regardless of the result you need to learn something from every game that you play in.
"There were some good things and some negative stuff and I am sure that we'll be talking about it all."
Coach Fabio Capello should learn today if Gareth Barry is fit enough to be involved in the World Cup finals when the Manchester City midfielder is given a test on his ankle. Rooney also gave fans a a scare near the end of last night's game when he appeared to signal to the bench that he was hurt and needed to come off.
But Rooney said today: "I am feeling good. I had a bit of stiff neck, that's all. I'm fine."
