Under pressure: Allardyce has felt the anger of the Newcastle fans
Chairman Chris Mort has insisted that both he and billionaire owner Mike Ashley have no plans to change a manager who has been in charge for just 14 games. But of greater concern to Allardyce is the apparent lack of belief in his innovative methods.
Of the team who started on Saturday, six were signed by the former Bolton manager in the summer. When they were asked if they disliked his methods, not one player responded.
However, Sportsmail understands that, despite their dressing-room silence, several members of the squad have expressed unease with the methods Allardyce implemented successfully in his eight years at the Reebok.
The manager called his dispirited players in on Monday for an unscheduled training session in an attempt to repair shattered morale. Newcastle visit Blackburn on Saturday before a home clash with leaders Arsenal.
Allardyce has admitted a five-game period without a win would be enough to set off the crisis signs. His bosses are certainly supportive. When asked if Ashley was still behind his manager, Mort said: 'Yes, absolutely. Sam is a very experienced manager and I'm sure he will work hard with his coaching team to turn the team around.
'It certainly does not surprise me to have fans voicing their concern. You pay decent money to watch a Premier League game these days and they're entitled to voice their concern if it's not going right.
'Saturday was a disappointing display and a disappointing result but we need to get the team together and look to do the best we can at Blackburn.'
