As they prepare for their Carling Cup semi-final second leg at Everton on Wednesday, the manager is set to be without eight first-choice players.
Shaun Wright-Phillips is the latest to join the injury list with suspected ankle ligament damage. It was being assessed today but it is expected to keep him out for several weeks.
Frank Lampard will not have recovered from his thigh problem in time after another setback and Joe Cole is playing on with a minor muscle injury.
Andriy Shevchenko's comeback date is still unclear after suffering his second back injury of the season and John Terry has only just started running outside as he recovers from a broken foot.
With Didier Drogba, Salomon Kalou, Michael Essien and John Obi Mikel at the African Nations' Cup, the last thing Chelsea needed in Saturday's 1-0 win at Birmingham was for Wright-Phillips to land awkwardly on his left ankle.
Grant said: "This season, every player that is in good condition gets injured.
"Shaun was one of our best players in the last two weeks. He played out of position because we needed it and I hope he will get better soon because now we are really short as a squad."
Striker Claudio Pizarro found himself in midfield at Birmingham before moving forward and scoring the winner, and Grant's side will be stretched as they try to hang on to a 2-1 first-leg win at Goodison Park.
Cole confirmed he is one of the Israeli's walking wounded.
He said: "I didn't train all week. I've been carrying a little bit of a niggle but we haven't got many players at the moment so we all need to be there."
