You can all go - furious Jewell rants at Derby players

Paul Jewell told the entire Derby first team squad they could quit the club in an extraordinary dressing-room rant following their 4-0 annihilation by relegated Reading on Sunday.

The Derby manager, who did not win a single Barclays Premier League match after replacing Billy Davies in November, told his stunned players he would be in his office until Thursday and, if they wanted to leave, they were free to do so.

Throwing up his hands in despair: Jewell laid into his team after their miserable season

Jewell, who will be given time to turn the club's fortunes around in the Championship, had already flown off the handle at half-time.

He asked Robbie Savage to check if the showers in the changing rooms were hot and, when the £35,000-a-week midfielder inquired why he was being asked, the Derby manager told him it was "because you're about to go in them".

Several players stifled laughs as Savage suffered the ultimate half-time humiliation before the club's own shower played the second half.

Savage was replaced by midfielder Benny Feilhaber after the break, but it is not the first time he has enraged the Derby chief.

Savage was hardly flavour of the month when he arrived for training in a £150,000 Mercedes painted in the club's black and white colours. Weeks later, centre half Alan Stubbs bought the same model.

Jewell flew into another rage after Sunday's embarrassing defeat and told players they could "send their agents or representatives in" to see him or "failing that, bring yourself".

He continued his remarkable dressing down by adding: "Some of you are so bad that I doubt you even have agents."

Many of the players have lost confidence in Jewell's ability to manage the team and he has been unable to have a positive impact on the club.

After the defeat, he said: "The fans who say we're not fit to wear the shirt are right. The demands of playing for this club have been too much.

"There was no desire, no fight. We've gone without a fight and that is why I'm so angry."

Meanwhile, Reading fans face an anxious wait to learn whether manager Steve Coppell will quit following the club's relegation. The manager met director of football Nicky Hammond on Monday, and Hammond said: "We have agreed that he needs a few days to reflect on the situation."
