The League leaders have sometimes been perceived as a soft touch but Wenger senses a new streak of steel in his side.

Tough talking: Arsene Wenger

"The time when we could be bullied is certainly over," he said.

"We can respond when it happens now and on that front we are much stronger than we were.

"I feel the players, especially here [at Emirates Stadium] where the pitch is so good, can escape the bad tackles and keep the ball moving."

Theo Walcott inspired a 2-0 win over Bolton on Saturday, which came courtesy of second-half goals from Kolo Toure and Tomas Rosicky.

The Gunners face a crucial Champions League match against Slavia Prague tomorrow, and will visit Liverpool and host Manchester United within the next two weeks.

Wenger said: "We know we dealt with the big games very well last season, so we should be confident that we can do that again.

"When there is consistency, there is always quality."
