Young: We must put the brakes on Berbatov

Luke Young has already been on the end of one Dimitar Berbatov masterclass this season but, with victory vital at The Valley tonight if Charlton are to stand any chance of surviving in the Premiership, he is determined there will be no repeat.

Berbatov scored twice in Tottenham's 5-1 win in December, a game Young admitted ranks as one of his low points of the season.

"I put him in my team of the year," Young said, such is his appreciation of the Bulgarian's contribution to Spurs in his first season in the Premiership.

"When we played at White Hart Lane it was a masterclass from him. We could not deal with him.

"He was everywhere and controlled the game. He's one that we need to control. His movement is great. He is a clever player, has a great touch and scores goals.

"We're not dead and buried yet. We still have a great chance of staying up."

Despite the Berbatov plaudits, Spurs manager Martin Jol has no doubt that Mr Dependable, Michael Dawson, is his player of the year.

With Spurs aiming for the UEFA Cup again, Jol said: "Dawson is my pick. He has played in almost all the games, but knows he can still be better."
