Your guide to backing Israel

England's hopes of qualifying for Euro 2008 are out of their hands following the misery in Moscow.

They must now count on Israel avoiding defeat to Russia on November 17 at the Ramat Gan Stadium — then Steve McClaren's men could reach the finals by beating Croatia at Wembley.

Benayoun: saviour in waiting

Here, Sportsmail provides a guide to supporting Israel in next month's critical qualifier.

I want to back the boys, but what do I chant? "El, el Israel" (Go, go Israel) followed by "Milchama" (Fight for the cause).

I've always thought Yossi Benayoun was quite handy. He scored the West Ham goal that kept Tottenham out of the Champions League last season, so he could do a similar job on Russia.

And he's saying all the right things: "If we can help England, then why not? Beating Russia will only do good to me and Tal Ben Haim (of Chelsea). They will love us in England."

But I heard Ben Haim and Benayoun have fallen out. Afraid so. An ugly spat over a free-kick in Israel's last international. Not promising.

Israel won't go easy on the Russians, will they? Well, Roman Abramovich funds the Channel One Cup in Israel, but plenty of fans there follow the Premier League and would happily help England. Hopefully.

Any more plus points? Yes, Israel have lost just two of their last 24 games at Ramat Gan and have never lost at home to Russia.

Excellent. What do I say when Israel do the business? "Todah raba Israel" (Thanks very much Israel).
