Adams: Nugent going nowhere

Portsmouth manager Tony Adams has refuted reports striker David Nugent is considering a move to Everton.

Nugent, 23, has endured a torrid time since joining from Preston in July 2007 with a series of injuries limiting his opportunities to live up to his £7million transfer fee and reports this week suggested Nugent was on his way to Goodison Park, where boss David Moyes has lost striker Ayegbeni Yakubu for the season through injury.

"Everton have not contacted us and he hasn't said he wants to go," Adams told the club's website. "He supported Everton as a boy and sometimes the press put two and two together and come up with five."

He added: "At the moment chances are limited for him but he's reacting really well in training and working hard.

"He's part of my squad and there will be opportunities for him."

Nugent, who has one England cap, believes his injury problems are behind him and spoke earlier this week of his desire to fight for his place at Fratton Park.

"Now I've just got to try and make an impact and persuade the manager to play me," he said.
