Adams puts future on hold

Tony Adams admits he has "not even thought about his future" with Portsmouth despite the fact his contract as assistant manager at Fratton Park runs out in the summer.

Boss Harry Redknapp has handed a large slice of success for FA Cup finalists' Pompey's success over the last two season to Adams and first-team coach Joe Jordan and says he would be delighted if the former Arsenal and England ace took the top job "one day when my time is up".

But Adams has not yet had talks with the south-coast club and said: "I'm not contracted past the end of the season so we'll see. Football clubs tend to do everything at the last minute."

He added: "I've been in this game long enough to know how it works, but I don't know what I'm doing about my future. I'm not even thinking about it at the moment.

"I'm just getting on with the job to be honest and we've got some big games coming up."

Adams, who has never made any secret of his desire for a return to football management despite an ill-fated spell with Wycombe Wanderers some years ago, was persuaded to accept a further one-year deal by Pompey last summer having joined them 12 months earlier as Redknapp's right hand man.

It is understood he turned down an approach at that time from French club Troyes and was also in the running for an appointment at Dutch outfit Feyenoord.
