Adkins content with draw

Scunthorpe manager Nigel Adkins was happy to still be in with a chance of another trip to Wembley following his side's 1-1 play-off semi-final first leg draw with the MK Dons.

Martyn Woolford bundled the Johnstone's Paint Trophy runners-up into a 12th-minute lead at Glanford Park, only for Aaron Wilbraham to pull Roberto Di Matteo's slick side back into it with his 17th goal of the season.

"It was entertaining for everybody," he said. "It was a good result from our point of view because we know we've got to go down there and win. It was a good competitive game."

He added: "We got on the front foot, played a high tempo, gave them problems and we've got to be pleased with that.

"We're in the tie, that's what we wanted to do. They know that we've beaten them already this season with a really good performance so they know we can go down there and get a good result. And it's all to play for.

"They had a couple of chances, we had a couple of chances, it was competitive... at the end of the day a result's a result, both teams are happy and it's a one-off game now down at their place. We know we can go there and win, they believe they can win. It's going to be exciting."

Di Matteo was equally satisfied with his side's endeavours and was pleased with the patience they showed in coming back from a goal down.

And the Italian also refused to criticise substitute Sam Baldock for a glaring late miss, when he fired into the only covering defender in front of an open goal to waste the chance of giving his side the advantage.

"I think it was a very exciting game," he said. "You look back and wish we'd scored with Sam because it was a great chance. But we have tried our best and if we don't score, we don't score. At least we create chances.

"We always go out and try to win games and I think the whole team had a good game. Maybe one or two players didn't play as well as they can but generally we did pretty well."
