Agar handed Hull job

Hull have named Richard Agar as their new head coach on a two-and-a-half-year contract.

The 36-year-old took temporary charge of the engage Super League strugglers for their 16-8 defeat to St Helens on Sunday after they parted company with Peter Sharp a week ago.

Despite slipping to their 10th defeat in 15 games this season, Hull impressed sufficiently enough to see Agar - who has assisted both John Kear and Sharp during his three-and-a-half-year stay at the KC Stadium - given the chance to rescue their ailing season.

"I am proud and honoured to have been appointed head coach of this famous club," said Agar.

"I am aware of the history and the heritage of Hull FC and feel privileged to be part of it. At the same time, I am also excited by the challenge and opportunity that this position brings."

Chief executive James Rule added: "I believe Richard is a fantastic appointment for the club.

"He is highly respected by the players, staff and within the wider game of rugby league. His ambition and drive will be an integral part of the future development of Hull FC."
