Age no barrier - Calzaghe

Joe Calzaghe insists time has not withered the talents which will ensure he is feted as arguably the greatest British boxer of all time if he beats Mikkel Kessler in style on Saturday night.

Calzaghe maintains he is in the shape of his life at 35, a ripe old age which saw all his domestic 12st predecessors including Nigel Benn, Chris Eubank and Steve Collins safely settled into retirement.

"Most fighters are coming to the end of the road at the age of 35 but I've not had that many wars and I would hammer the Joe Calzaghe of five years ago," said the Welshman. "I'm so relaxed because I know this is my fight."

He added: "I know I don't have too many fights left, maybe a couple more after this, which is why I only want big fights from here on in. I could move up to light-heavyweight but it depends where the big fights can be made.

"I have always been certain I will not fight on too long. I have seen too many fighters fight too far past their prime, with Evander Holyfield being the most recent example. I just wish he'd retire."
