Alinghi clinch dramatic win

Team Alinghi have retained the America`s Cup after clinching an extraordinary one-second win over Team New Zealand in Valencia.

Fittingly for the closest final in 24 years, the seventh and decisive race - which gave Alinghi an insurmountable 5-2 win - went down to the wire.

Alinghi led until halfway down the home straight, but then, with the finish line in sight, they got stuck in a windless hole and Team New Zealand, still needing to complete a penalty turn before finishing, charged past.

However, having completed the turn just metres away from the finish, Alinghi edged their bow ahead to win the 32nd Cup.
