All GB final for women cyclists

Rebecca Romero and Wendy Houvenaghel will meet in an all-British final of the women's individual pursuit at the Beijing Olympics on Saturday.

Romero - aiming to become the first British woman to win medals in two different summer Olympic sports - advanced to the gold medal race by beating Australia's Katie Mactier in three minutes, 27.703 seconds.

And Houvenaghel, born in Northern Ireland but who represented England at the Commonwealth Games in 2006, was slightly slower - beating Lada Kozlikova of the Czech Republic in 3:27.829.

Bradley Wiggins secured a place in the final of the men's individual pursuit.

Londoner Wiggins is strong favourite to win having performed consistently quicker than everyone else in the competition by some distance.

He advanced to the final after beating Alexander Serov of Russia in a time of 4:16.571.

He will meet New Zealander Hayden Roulston, who was over two-and-half seconds slower in his first round race.

And Lancastrian Steven Burke, 20, will have a chance for bronze after beating Volodymyr Dyudya of Ukraine in a time of 4:21.588.

Burke's performance is a welcome surprise for the British team who only decided he would ride 24 hours before Friday's qualifying.

Burke must beat Alexei Markov of Russia, who was almost a second and a half slower than the Englishman in his round.
