Allardyce rings the changes
18 January 2008
Rovers have sacked their former assistant manager Ray Mathias and first-team coach Archie Knox, with Allardyce putting his own staff in place.
"Ray Mathias and Archie Knox have both been relieved of their duties," said a club statement. "In welcoming Neil the club would like to thank Ray and Archie for their efforts over the last few months."
Mathias and Knox were put in temporary control of the team after Paul Ince's departure on Tuesday but were left under no illusions they would probably not be in charge at the weekend.
Once Allardyce signed a three-year contract on Wednesday he immediately began assessing the backroom staff and Mathias and Knox have become the first of Ince's coaches to leave.
The former Bolton boss chose to bring in Leeds head coach McDonald - who had a spell at the Reebok Stadium under Allardyce - as his new second-in-command.
Ince's assistant first-team coach Karl Robinson is to remain with the club.
Allardyce is set to be officially unveiled at a press conference at Ewood Park on Thursday.
