Alonso looks for repeat perfection

Fernando Alonso will continue to seek perfection in his bid to win a third successive Formula One title.

The reigning world champion moved within three points of McLaren team-mate Lewis Hamilton following a lights-to-flag victory at the Italian Grand Prix.

"Nothing has been decided following this race, and nothing will be decided after the next race, and I think it will stay like that until the last race," assessed Alonso. "For me, this was the perfect weekend. I had no worries with the car, everything worked perfectly all through the race in all the stints, all the tyres."

He added: "But that's not the important thing. For me personally, after what happened in Turkey - even though I again closed the gap in the championship by two points - I was not totally happy with the weekend.

"So when I arrived here I was very focused, wanting to make five finals, and from here to the end I will go for it.

"So everything was very good. I just had fun driving the car, and to win at Monza for the first time is very special.

"Sometimes everything goes in the right direction. This weekend was one of those times and we were able to keep up the momentum.

"To win in front of the enthusiastic Italian fans is very emotional."
