Alves nears as Robben set to fly

Reports in Spain on Tuesday night were suggesting the Alves deal was imminent after he was left out of Sevilla's squad for the Champions League third qualifying round first-leg tie against AEK Athens.
The 24-year-old is keen to join the Blues, and boss Juande Ramos describes the player as a very important part of his team, saying: "It's true that Daniel has an important role in this team, especially in our attacking play. It's also true that two teams like Madrid and Chelsea are trying to acquire his services."
He added: "We will try to overcome his absence (against Athens) with another player who will show the same ambition as him."
Playing against the Greeks would have made Alves cup-tied for European competition.
Robben's long awaited move to Real Madrid is even closer, with Marca claiming Chelsea are ready to accept Real's offer of 30million euros for the Dutchman.
Mourinho, it appears, has finally accepted Robben can move on - and a deal is likely to be given the final go-ahead once the Alves situation is clarified.
Chelsea refused to comment on the mounting speculation - although they did unveil Brazilian defender Alex on Tuesday.
Alex joined Chelsea from PSV Eindhoven this summer but is still not fit enough to be considered for Wednesday night's Barclays Premier League clash with Reading at the Madejski stadium.
Alex said: "The level is the same at Chelsea. They have many players at the club who also play for their countries. I am sure all the players at Chelsea are the same quality in level as the Brazilian team."
