Ameobi close to Ipswich move

Ipswich manager Jim Magilton has confirmed the club are poised to sign Shola Ameobi from Newcastle after a transfer fee was agreed for the player.

The 26-year-old striker has found himself behind Michael Owen, Obafemi Martins and Alan Smith at St James' Park and spent part of last season in the Coca-Cola Championship on loan at Stoke.

"We have agreed a fee with Newcastle for Shola and he spent yesterday (Monday) at the club having a medical," Magilton told www.itfc.co.uk.

He added: "We've had a good chat and things are moving on. He will be with us again today and hopefully we can get it all tied up."
