Anderson not distracted by perfect 10

James Anderson will embark on a pursuit of history at Trent Bridge this afternoon, insisting a possible place in Test cricket's hall of fame will not cause increased anxiety in his performance.

The 25-year-old Lancashire seamer will resume the rain-delayed third day of the final npower Test against New Zealand - play is due to get under way at 1.40pm - on course to become only the second England player and third in history to claim 10 wickets in an innings, with the tourists on 96 for six - 268 runs adrift.

But when asked whether he was thinking about a 10-wicket haul, Anderson - who finished the second day with six for 42 - said: "Not really, not at the minute - if I get to eight or nine wickets then I might start to think about it then. If it happens it happens, but it's not something I am going to worry about."

Anderson's stunning exhibition of swing bowling continues his steady development in his longest run in the Test side since making his debut five years ago.

However, having struggled for rhythm during the previous Test at Old Trafford, he admits he is still searching for the consistency which would secure his place for some time in the future.

"I'm definitely on the right track," added Anderson.

"The first innings at Old Trafford was a bit of a dodgy innings. If I tend to have a dodgy innings, I have a dodgy game.

"If I can limit it to a dodgy innings every three, four or five games, then I'm definitely on the right track."
