'Angry' Murray overcomes Karlovic

Andy Murray plans to keep his temper under control after a three-set win over world number 20 Ivo Karlovic put him through to the fourth round of the Pacific Life Open in Indian Wells.

Murray edged to a 7-6 (9/7) 6-7 (3/7) 6-3 win over the 6ft 10in Croat but then admitted he had lost his cool too often during the match.

"I was disappointed with my attitude during the match, I was getting really angry and I haven't done that this year," Murray told BBC Sport. "I was just in a bad frame of mind and you can sometimes snap out of it, but when you're playing someone who is as frustrating to play against as him, it's difficult."

He added: "I was just happy with the way I came through in the end because I was not focusing as well as I should have been."

The 20-year-old's tactics were exemplary, making it difficult for Karlovic to employ his preferred serve-volley game as he won four of five break points.

The match was predictably short of rallies, but Murray's flair eventually enabled him to prevail to set up a last-16 meeting with Tommy Haas.
