Annacone signs new LTA deal

Paul Annacone has signed a new three-year contract with the Lawn Tennis Association to continue in his role as head coach of men's tennis.

The American, who previously coached Tim Henman and Pete Sampras, joined the LTA in November 2006 and will spend 75 per cent of his year working with British players.

"I believe that there has been real progress in British tennis over the past 12 months but there is still a lot of work to be done," he said. "I am delighted to be able to continue in my role as head coach of men's tennis and am really excited about the challenges ahead."

He added: "My role will be multi-faceted, working with players transitioning from junior to senior tennis, linking with Leon Smith to contribute to the development of the 12-16 year olds and also in a support role to Paul Hutchins in the day-to-day operations and development of the men's tennis department.

"There is much work to be done and I am looking forward to continuing to build on the foundation that has been laid."

LTA chief executive Roger Draper said: "Paul is a world-class coach and I am delighted that he has made a long-term commitment to the LTA.

"Getting more players on track to reach the top 100 is a huge focus for us, and Paul's experience will be vital as we look to get more players winning on the international stage."
