Another Greek caught by testers
09 January 2008
Greek state television named Tassos Gousis, a 29-year-old 200m sprinter, as testing positive for the banned steroid methyltrienolone before the team's training camp. He has been recalled from the Beijing Olympics.
International Olympics Committee communications director Giselle Davies told a news conference in Beijing: "We have been told of a doping violation found by the Greek doping authorities."
He added: "This athlete is now not coming to the Games as a result of this finding.
"It was not an IOC test and this is now a case for the Greek national Olympic committee to follow up."
Greece have already had 11 weightlifters, a boxer and swimmer Yiannis Drymonakos withdrawn after positive tests in the past three months.
Meanwhile, the IOC's executive board will decide in the next few days on Greece's sprinter Katerina Thanou's eligibility for the Games.
The Sydney 100m silver medallist withdrew from Athens following a missed drugs test and was banned until December 2006. She qualified for Beijing but requires IOC approval to compete in Beijing.
She is due to arrive on August 13, three days days before the 100m heats.
