Arthur adds weight to argument

Alex Arthur has revealed his burning ambition to become a world champion at different weights - starting next year with a move up to lightweight.

The 29-year-old from Edinburgh puts his WBO super-featherweight interim title on the line against Englishman Steve Foster at Meadowbank on Saturday night, hoping victory will land him a super-fight next year against one of the division's leading boxers.

"This will probably be my last year at super-featherweight - it's an ambition of mine to move up and challenge for a title at another weight," he said.

"I would love to see myself end this year as the super-featherweight champion and then go for the lightweight title next year.

"Whether that's a dream too far, who knows? I really believe that can happen and that's what I can see.

"I have been thinking about that since I was 21, not in the last 12 months.

"It's not because I don't want to make the weight any more or don't have the desire.

"I guess that it would put me in legend status if I did that.

"It was never about financial security or money like a lot of other fighters go for. Maybe it was for glory the whole time.

"I always planned it in my mind that I had the kind of frame and body structure to move through the weight classes. It's done very rarely nowadays."
