Arthur to resist jump up in weight

Alex Arthur will remain at super-featherweight for one more year despite the battle to retain his interim WBO title against Steve Foster Junior at Meadowbank.

The Edinburgh boxer admitted another struggle to make the nine stone four pounds limit before the brutal and sometimes ugly scrap against Foster.

"I won't be moving up just yet," he said. "I've had some tests carried out with my sports scientist John Watson and we have decided that we have another year at the weight easily."

He added: "It's not a big secret that I'm big for the weight.

"It's tough making the weight, boxing is tough, life is tough but it's about discipline and determination."

Promoter Frank Warren is looking to show Arthur off at Edinburgh Castle next year.

He said: "First of all we've got to look at the situation with the WBO.

"I think Guzman will go up a weight, Alex will then be declared champion and we will see what's there.

"Alex is 29 years of age, his career has gone really well and he's at the stage where he is looking for even better things but first we've got to secure his position as number one.

"We've done Cardiff Castle so I'd like to do Edinburgh Castle, I like putting shows on in unique places. It is realistic, of course it is, as long as the Edinburgh fans continue to get behind their man."
