Aussies close in on victory

Australia knocked over four key wickets on the final morning of the second Test in Durban to leave South Africa in a precarious position as they headed into lunch at 307 for six.

Jacques Kallis (93), AB de Villiers (84), JP Duminy (17) and Paul Harris (five) were all dismissed in a tough morning for the hosts, during which the new ball was immediately taken on a fast-deteriorating Kingsmead pitch.

At the break, Mark Boucher was unbeaten on eight with Morne Morkel yet to get off the mark.

The day began with Kallis again being dropped - he was put down by Marcus North on nought on Monday - by the Australians, this time vice-captain Michael Clarke the culprit when he let a simple chance slip through his fingers at point off Ben Hilfenhaus.

However, this time the missed chance did not prove as costly as Kallis was out in the next over when he tried to fend off a Mitchell Johnson delivery and only succeeded in finding Ricky Ponting at second slip.

That wicket ended a fighting 187-run partnership between Kallis and de Villiers and looked to have broken the hosts' resistance.

De Villiers followed soon after when he received an almost unplayable delivery from Peter Siddle that was deflected to Brad Haddin behind the stumps.

The Australian wicketkeeper then dropped Duminy off the same bowler when the ball slipped through his gloves with the batsman on six at the time.

But he made amends when a Hilfenhaus bouncer gave Duminy no chance of getting his gloves out of the way quickly enough as he too edged behind.

And with lunch on the horizon, Ponting threw the ball to Simon Katich, who struck with his second delivery when he tempted Harris in trying to go over the top, with a thick edge snapped up by Siddle running back from mid-on.
